PRECARIOUS CREATIVE INDUSTRIES
Martin • October 19. 2009 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
on 13.th and 14.th of november, Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung und Helle Panke e.V. will present a conference at volksbühne berlin.the title will be „ÜberLeben in den »Creative Industries“ (about living and surviving in the Creative Industies).
subjects will be the replacement, the conversion and the economic integration of unadapted creativity in creative cities.
the whole issue is sparking debate about one of the most misrepresented topics within the discussion about creative industries, namely the precarious working conditions and insecure income for those engaged in it.
creatives are constantly under pressure to conform to the market and to contribute to the ongoing gentrification of the city, which is basically replacing berlin´s "creative scene" with something closer to a "creative class", which seems to be just another name for a new bourgeoisie, pulling down those who dont manage to keep their heads above water.

CINEMA EXHIBITION @ BUSAN SAMSEONG CINEMA
Hyun--Jeong Kim • October 16. 2009 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
last weekend i went to busan to meet old friends at the PIFF (pusan int. film festival). it was great, but it was terrible to observe that even in busan mass modernisation is destroying the charming atmosphere of the second biggest city of korea located at the south coast. busan has now the biggest department store in the world and they seem to be proud of it. well congratulations!but there are still some remains in the city far away from the fancy film festival that are resisting the delusion of modernization. the samseong cinema in which former showcase artist eun-ho lee has organized the unique art show: cinema exhibition (극장전).
eun-ho managed to gather some young artists to show their works in the different rooms of the old cinema, which was built in 1951. the totally rotten down historic building offers a creative scenery for an unusual exhibition.
outside the building next to the new constructed road street artist kay 2 placed the right mark of resistence.
on the second floor in front of the toilets paintings by chang-yong shin (신창용) honor action stars in a rough pop-art style.
video artist heung-soon im (임흥순) decided to show one of his video works in the loge on the second floor. however, he decided at the end that this space is an artwork itself so he left the screen white.
on the balcony on the third floor the characters of PLATOON KUNSTHALLE studio artist junkhouse and sixcoin express the "desire mountain" referring to the whole cinema and especially to the little room at the end of this balcony where there is a bunch of old mattresses. every day the stuff is lying around in a different way and there are weird phantasies drawn on the walls. hmmmmm....
... where do the people get these strange ideas? maybe by watching the films which are usually shown in this old cinema? this is the program you can find at the entrance: red cherry 4 and betty blue.

A CRAZY CHANCE
heidrun • October 15. 2009 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
last week i had a remarkable surgery on my left eye. i got a new lens.the end of it: now I can see with this eye like a twenty years old woman. 2 apertures lighter and sharp like an eagle. crazy!
but it`s not really wonderful, because it´s only one eye.
so my head has many problems to regulate it.....
however in december the next eye will follow and than i will start a new/old phase of my life.
this video is absolutly from my own eye.

THERE IS NO I IN TEAM
Marcello • October 14. 2009 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
as part of THERE IS NO I IN TEAM's international tour, this 3-day event happening at PROGRAM, Berlin, from 15th to 17th October 2009 brings together cutting-edge chinese video, live audiovisuals and performance art and creative communities from both China and Berlin.the event is structured around the idea of making a live radio show focusing on rhizomatic networks stretching out from China to Berlin. the guests for THERE IS NO I IN TEAM belong to the same network of people who create their artistic projects on an individual basis but yet become public through a team of people who provide the necessary context.
on Friday 16th there will be an audiovisual performance of Dead J and Chen Xiongwei where the outer space dub electro mixed with cold and warm soundscapes of Dead J melt into the urban sketches drawn by CXW. Harndorf, known from the collective Torstrasse Intim, will perform on the evening of the 17th. the very neurotic and very German figure has promised to learn some English so she can share her crude views on life, art and postmodern food with us in her live lecture „[ai] [ai] [ai]'.
a radio program created around the existing project THERE IS NO I IN TEAM installs itself in an exhibition space where the video works of Meiya Lin and Jin Shan raise questions about the role of the individual, hierarchy, power, migration, public space, market strategies and capitalism. these questions set up a framework for the talks, interviews, skype-conversations and lectures of the radio program and will be broadened further into 3 series of Chinese short films, screened in the evening.
PROGRAM is a nonprofit project aimed at testing the disciplinary boundaries of architecture through collaborations with other fields. initiated in 2006 by Carson Chan and Fotini Lazaridou-Hatzigoga, PROGRAM provides a discursive platform for artists, architects, critics and curators to explore ideas through exhibitions, performances, workshops, lectures, and residencies.
