the construction of KUNSTHALLE GWANGJU goes on. here some pics from yesterday. these are the four 20 feet containers on the new concrete ground.luckily it stopped raining for a moment when we had a look on the site.
this is the view from the back. looks dramatic with the grey clouds.
the old administration building in the back that played a big role during the gwangju democratic movement.
this picture was made a few hours ago: now there are even more containers. the korean construction workers are really fast. the building will be ready for the 30th anniversary of the gwangju democratic movement 518 starting in about 2 weeks. everything is possible in korea^^
REVIEW: COFFEE AND CIGARETTES... and HEIDRUN's BIRTHDAY!

seoul · last friday we had another monthly movie screening, this time "coffee and cigarettes" by jim jarmusch. since we started screening regularly it was the most anticipated movie night that we had. perhaps it was the popularity of the director or the topic that probably many people sympathized with :)after the movie screening dj unjin created the perfect atmosphere for one of the main event of the night: Heidrun's birthday!
first of all, we had one of a kind customized cake...
and presents from heart
and hopefully a happy heidrun who unexpectedly spent her birthday in korea, thanks to the vulcano.
we loved having you and the berlin crew here!
WHAT A BLAST!!!

SEOUL: we were all in deep concentration in our THINK TANK when we suddenly heard an extraordinary BOOOOM!!!at first we were totally disorientated and couldn´t really understand what happened....
all platoonies ran to the entrance of the PLATOON.KUNSTHALLE and we found this unexpected scene...
it isn´t clear yet what really happened but a possible scenario could be that a heavely drunk valet parker ran into a SLK mercedes and an infiniti car... then he probaly realized he would never be able to pay for that and he just gave full gas aiming towards our SHOWCASE container at the ground floor of the KUNSTHALLE... like a kamikaze!
thank god nobody got hurt apart from him! it might have ended up in tragedy for some of our Bar Crew or guests...
Tom was the only one who witnessed the whole thing from his office..! everybody was quite in shock.
a couple of paintings by artist Son Min Chul have been irreparably damaged!
we hope the guy will survive... and someone will come up with a cheque to pay for the damage.

FRI 23. APRIL · 8 PM"coffee and cigarettes" by jim jarmusch shows famous actors in bizarre chats in the typical jarmusch style. in one of the 11 episodes taking place in different bars and coffee shops, rza, gza and waiter bill murray recognize each other as wu-tang clan members and ex-ghostbuster in a cafe talking about that coffee isn't good for the body. the stories were produced at different times starting in 1986. 1993 "somewhere in california" with iggy pop and tom waits received the golden palm for best short film at the cannes film festival. the feature film "coffee and cigarettes" was later released in 2003 and shown in korea for the first time at the jeonju int. film festival. jim jarmusch´s great music selection enhances the cool and relaxed style of the film.

so yes, for those of you who haven’t noticed, the rumours are true: PLATOON berlin is officially stuck in korea. thank you eyjafjallajokull! now this is really not the worst situation to be in. have you seen the pictures and listened to the tales of the last 10 days?we, the berlin crew, have set up a work camp in the think tank and shall enjoy the hospitality of seoul until the ash has been vacuumed out of the sky. which at the moment will most likely be next monday or, according to christoph, in 2 years.
WORK AND PLAY

we can play and we can work! last week was dedicated to a united PLATOON workshop. after a decade of revolutionary spirit and with 2 successful headquarters it was time to fuse teams. and fusing we did, covering everything from our vision to our new menues. one week of collaborations equals one week of long talks, lots of coffee intake, heated discussions and laughter. synchronisation of the seoul – berlin recruitment process was amongst the many outcomes of the workshop. as we are about to launch our creative online network soon, getting more and more interesting people to join, is currently on the forefront. now with both recruitment officers on the same level we are ready to roll.
