DANIEL ZIMMER @ PLATOON.BERLIN

Marcello • November 10. 2009 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
last week Daniel Zimmer came around at PLATOON.BERLIN on his way to Amsterdam and he didnt miss the chance to leave behind one of his incredible paste-ups.

back in june Daniel showcased his installation “touch screen” in the KUNSTHALLE.SEOUL. so to literally mirror back his experience over there, he decided to include in this work two people he photographed back in Seoul.

the project itself is about people watching themselves in a mirror, showing their most intimate expressions, the one we usually reserve for ourselves... Daniel captures that moment with a hidden camera, investigating people's relationship to their self-image.

check out more about Daniel Zimmer and RHIZOMATIC, his project space for artistic research in Amsterdam.

Domino DAY

Martin • November 10. 2009 • POLITICAL AFFAIRS
Yesterday, 20 years after the fall of the Berlin wall there were some big celebrations all over the city. One of these was a big domino-game going from Reichstag to potsdammer platz. The dominos were standing directly where the wall was build in 1961. After the official ceremony Lech Walesa pushed down the first of 1000 pieces of dominowall. 20 years after 9.11.1989 the wall tumbled down for the second time.

20 years: fall of the wall

heidrun • November 9. 2009 • POLITICAL AFFAIRS

today is the 20th anniversary of the fall of the berlin wall.
all the people, who lived before in the west-sector know about the reprisals by border crossings where ever you would go: for visiting friends in the east-sector or for a journey with the car or train, where you had to drive through the german democratic republic.
before 1989 west-berlin was a city like a big family. everyone lived together without reservations, because all were aware that they were living here in a state of emergency. so it was a crazy big town, which was attractive for its attitude for life and not for economic status. but I think, the most of them don´t know the real life in the east part of the city. The reality confrontated the west-inhabitants, when one refugee was shot and killed on the run in the west-sector.

but in the night, when the wall fell down, it was such an enjoyment all over the city, you can´t visualize it if you havent been there. it was so great.

despite all the political mistakes, that have been done in many ways through the german unification towards the people in the eastern region, it was the best thing that did happened in the last century: citizens of the german democratic republic stood up to fight for their rights.
