Marcello • July 15. 2008 • PLATOON.area
a big hello to all of you out there, once again there is a reason to party!for too long we didnt let you know much about us....but now the time has come.
as one or the other have already noticed, we are now based in the alten schönhauserstrasse 3 and we enhanced PLATOON with 2 more containers
and this is new: our Recruitment Office
we are often asked what we exactly do, where our interests lay and how our jobs look like. what is this PLATOON.network - comprised of people from the most diverse creative backgrounds - all about? and why are we so often in Korea?
on saturday, july 19th you’ll have the chance to learn much more about PLATOON, about our international projects, what this Recruitment Office actually is, what we are up to in Berlin and what it is that really engages us.
many of you are already members of the PLATOON.association (e.V) and know us from the past. now you´ve got the possibility to actively participate to our network and to collaborate with us on the development of an even wider international network.
please dont forget to bring your PLATOON.dogTags, they will be regarded as entry tokens for the day´s event and will help us, when needed, to make some quick updates. but we wont reveal more then that now.;-)
expect delicious drinks, prepared by the jette-bar-crew, daniel at the grill and a line up of interesting live-acts and dj´s.
the event starts at 12am, with open-end as usual...and if you could send us a little guestlist-mail it would be great for our scheduling.
the whole PLATOON.crew welcomes you... till then...
stay straight....
so long P.

PLATOON.seoul photo shooting
udo lee • July 15. 2008 •
photo time! last saturday PLATOON.seoul took photos for the new recruitment office section. the studio is run by one of jiwon's friends, a nice basement studio with funky music and beamer projections in the background. here some pics of the shooting... running gag for the day was twisting your fingers to the mighty "west berlin" sign... well, for ohyun, a native "west berliner", who would die for his hood of course it was serious business ^^

the"back to berlin" launching party at platoon.
yeunsu lee • July 15. 2008 •
last thursday we had a small book launching party at the PLATOON/KUNSTHALLE.seoul site.dong mi was in berlin last winter to research for her berlin book - PLATOON helped her out as much as possible: PLATOON supported dong-mi and photographer jeong-tae in finding a place to stay and platoonie judith guided her around all over berlin to gather information for writing the book which, by the way, became a really nice colorful and diverse personal travelogue about berlin!
also bling and dazed&confused CEO (^^) sehoon is a proud sponsor and publisher of "다시 베를린 [back to/again berlin]"/
author dongmi& photographer jeongtae.
she decorated the site with light balls hanging on wire with all kinds of pictures from berlin, very nice and looks more berlinish~~^^*
the book was on sale and most books she brought that night were gone.
every single one of 'em liked the book. so do l hehehe^^* you can tell ...
our PLATOONIE udo lee started the party with berlin style minimal house beats and blew the summer heat into the air and dj bada from cologne took over ^^* - together they rocked the party ....!!!
the party was successful as usual, over 300people.... ^^ so long buddies, till next time...danke!

Southwark LIDO - London´s urban baths
Marcello • July 10. 2008 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
the Temporary Architecture fever is hitting London as well. for this week-end only, you can enjoy having a roman bath & sauna at Southwark Lido in London, a project by french architectural collective EXYZT. The temporary public bath was commissioned by the Architecture Foundation for the London Festival of Architecture.the theme of urban regeneration through community interaction is something we support as well... afterall it is one of the reasons why we have been featured at the BLN/NYC dialogues last year.
also the construction is somehow very familiar to us...it almost feels like home. maybe for the fact that EXYZT also used layher-system, although in their own very creative way. or maybe it is for that Badeschiff flair...
however we love this project, it works so well in London´s urban setting under the tube´s bridge!(pics)
it turns out to be quite surreal to have a sauna and lay in the sun in this post industrial background.
EXYZT are quite familiar with Berlin´s architectural scene....in 2005 they joined forces with raumlabor in the temporary hotel project „der Berg“ at the former Palast der Republik, which now, unfortunately, is being dismantled.
so, if any of you EXYZT guys are ever in Berlin again, dont forget to come around for a chat here at PLATOON.
watch this video about „der Berg“

"is berlin wall reborn in seoul?"
“컨테이너 장벽은 부활한 베를린 장벽”-
yeunsu lee • June 25. 2008 •
tom went to the candlelight demonstration site on june 10, where he gave an interview for an internet radio channel in seoul (with 1.5 millons listeners at that time) about better ways of using containers than what president myeong-bak lee came up with. check out the articles below from the magazine sisain and the strangesystems blog"톰 뷔세만 씨(독일)는 광고홍보 전문가다.
"Art, Containers and Candlelight Demonstrations
Walking to dinner the other day I came across 3 shipping container stacked on top of each other in a parking lot. It had Kunsthalle lettered across the side. Apparently it is an art space erected in the spirit of Kunsthalle formulated in the 60's in Dusseldorf according to kunsthalle.com.
This got me thinking about another set of shipping containers that made the news recently.
There have been massive demonstrations in Seoul opposing the resumption of beef imports from the US. The main beef (pun totally intended) that the demonstrator have is concern over mad cow disease and given Korea's culinary culture of eating everything down to the bone is a cow, this is not a light concern. Trust has eroded in the fledgling administration of newly elected president Lee Myung Bak in that the deal lifting the current ban on beef imports was negotiated and signed hastily and carelessly and that stronger provisions should have been made ensuring beef safety. In similar negotiations between Japan and the US, restrictions were made on cows aged older than 30 months, but none were made in the Korea deal."-more info.

nede - performance and installation
Marcello • June 24. 2008 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
a refreshing breeze of perfomances is storming Berlin these days. a special squad from the italian art collective CERCLE, will in fact present nedE – an incredible performance and art installation at BROTFABRIK on thursday 26th of june.CERCLE is an art collective composed by several professional artist coming from different areas within the arts sphere... among others: theatre, fine arts, architecture and design.
their performances, installations and videos are produced through an interdisciplinary dialog between international artists, making their projects always unpredictable and in constant flux.
they are now approaching Berlin to find like-minded artists to join them in their participatory project concept, which dismantles the very idea of an enclosed theatre ensemble, making the production of their works a collaboratory process involving artists independently from their location.
at the moment they are based at cultural association IBIS in Nettuno, a beautiful seaside town near Rome where they also organise the art festival RIFRAZIONI.
for the occasion, sculptress & fine artist Roberta Sanges is creating a sound sculpture made of old DDR scrap material found at an abandoned site near RAW temple...and is developing some of its parts here at PLATOON.
actress Livia Caputo and actors Stefano Rana and Giorgio Carugno will take on the performance side, directed by very talented Director Souphien Amiar.
we warmly advise you to go and see the performance...besides the installation will be running the whole day, with performances starting irregularly in the evening.
nedE – performance and installation
inspired by the poem „the waste land“ by T.S Elliot.
PREMIERE: 26th of june 20:00
Performances on the 27./28./29. June
And 3./4. July
