Pictures of Junk

Ohyun Kwon • January 14. 2009 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
Vik Muniz is a brasilian artist, who makes art out of everything from sugar to junk... his work has been described by some critic as "art for people, who don't like art" (or something like that)... for anyone who wants to see what kind of guy he is, you can check out a video of his lecture he did at Ted... and he is also one of the few contemporary artists who have a decent website: www.vikmuniz.net

strange objects growing in the PLATOON yard

Markus • January 13. 2009 • PLATOON.area
after christoph had recieved a sculpture as a birthday present. all of us really took care of it. it was moved around the yard so that it would get enough sun, it got special „italian style“ massage, it was watered and after the grass started growing everyone took turns in „mowing the lawn“ – in fact the grass was cut with scissors and it afforded some patience to get it right. obviously it also had received „special fertilisation“ because in this winter after it had grown really cold a miniature duplicate of the berlin tv tower grew on the grass. the „guys“ who applied the fertilizer are certainly berlin addicts and soccer maniacs. lets’s see what happens next in the PLATOON.yard !?!?!

ODED EZER

Martin • January 13. 2009 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
Oded Ezer is a typo artist who developes characters into the third dimension. One of his most known works is a homage to graphic designer Milton Glaser. Ezer reinterpreted his I ♥ NY logo and presented it in a never seen before way. Whether it's insects, sperm or everyday objects, he crossbreeds letters with pretty much anything.

i think it's my turn now to tell you some things about me.

some of you may know me from pictures on this website as i am pretty often on party pictures (how embarrassing).
like many of the platoon members in seoul i am also one of these strange koreans who behave completely german although they have slit eyes, small noses, dark eyes and hair. on top i speak with a Berlin accent as i grew up in spandau (which IS part - the biggest even - of berlin!)

one of my favorite activities is travelling and getting to know new people. i was lucky to learn spanish in quito, to study in mexico city and bamberg. it was so hard to crack the franconians, but in the end i met some nice guys with whom i was running a little cultural space called format:b. about five years ago i moved to seoul. i was organizing cultural events with the goethe-institut korea(www.goethe.de/seoul). it was great fun especially when some projects took me to pyongyang and other places in north korea.

this is my second week with platoon and i think i like seeing and working with these crazy guys every day (as long as they do not force me to drink and smoke). i stopped smoking right before i started this new job. i am not sure if this was a good idea...

Intro Tutu

Dear Platoon Members,

So here comes my introduction to you. I do have a German passport, my appearance is somewhat looking Korean. Having lived pretty much all my life in Germany I decided to move on to the mad city Seoul end of April 2008. After high school, I worked over a period for two years here and there as a Photo Assistant, Stylist Assistant, Booker and went nuts ;)

Therefore, plans changed and I went into business studies and worked for the last 5 years in the IT industry - specialized in mobile browser & other applications. My daily routine at that time is hard to explain in simple words so just imagine talking everyday to geeks, nerds and freaks from a different planet discussing about how to improve the technology of a device which nowadays almost EVERYONE depend on (also you my friend, with your fancy i-phone or whatsoever ^^). I spent 4,5 years with a Japanese firm (quite fun) and 6 months here in Seoul with a Korean company (everything else than fun).

Last mentioned experience gave me a good reason to enter my halfway midlife-crisis and for some reason I crashed into the Platoon organization located in Seoul.

Why did I join Platoon Seoul?

Because I do love the idea of what Platoon wants to accomplish here. The trigger & impulse you want to set. It makes totally sense and is very important for a cultural mindset captured within a limited framework which doesn't know how to make the next step on its own.

That's pretty much about me. I hope to learn about everyone within the organization sooner or later as well :)

Bye for now!

4th FLOOR @ KUNSTHALLE SEOUL

Christoph • January 9. 2009 • KUNSTHALLE
today we reached full hight! means the rooftop bar arrived.

to give you an overview of the sight a single shot is not sufficent in size anymore.. so i had to make some collages:

here the view from the rooftop bar to the chill area in 4th floor. imagine hanging out the whole night under the sky!

this is the view from the oppostite side towards the bar.

just to remember: this is our bar inside the hall.

and here a view standing at the upcoming second part of the hall which will be covered next saturday for completion. this will actually double the size of the building you see now.

on the 3rd floor you see our 4th office container which will have a glass window wall to look down to the hall.

a view from our "carpark" behind the PLATOON.

and here from the street behind the building.

it's close to "mission acomplished!.. stay tuned.

Hot Seoul Chicks Vol 1

Tutu Lee • January 9. 2009 • PLATOON.members
Honney: "hey tutu, you also here? what brought you here?
Tutu: "udo, who forced me to DRINK. You?"
Honney: "These platoon guys. They always use the same trick. Tom did this to mee, too!!!"
Tutu: "Aha. How was your breakfast today?"
Honney: Had a coffee in room 1008 of human starville while yeunsu was running around like crazy looking for her keys. I still feel dizzy. and you?"
Tutu: "Uh? Oh? Also drinking coffee. Ahh there you are. Cheers!"
Honney: "Are you sure you want to spend your time in these containers in seoul?"
Tutu: "Well in case the containers do not collapse, yes. What is your first impression after having started the initial working week?"
Honney: "Well, sitting in this hotel room and having meetings on the bed feels a little strange, but I am adapting myself to it."
Tutu: "Honney, you are a rockstar!"
Honney: "Yeah, and Tutu you are the dancing queen! Is this enough now?"
Tutu: "Mh...yeah, I think you should go back to bed."
Honney: "I would like to, but - damn - Christoph locked the door!"
