NIGHT FLEA MARKET vol. 4 @ PLATOON KUNSTHALLE in seoul

once again, it's time for crazy night shopping! one of our most beloved events, night flea market vol. 4 was held at PLATOON KUNSTHALLE seoul last saturday, nov. 12. despite the cold weather, flowing crowds were everywhere skimming through and purchasing lots of goodies. such a fun night!

there was also a fund raising event for founding an art school in cambodia. good cause.














































this was the last flea market for 2009. much more to come in 2010. expect more!

adams & reich concert

last night, nov 7 i had a great chance to see 'adams & reich', a concert of a close friend of PLATOON KUNSTHALLE pianist jong-hwa park.

park played john adams’ 'grand pianola music' (1981) and steve reich’s 'city life for amplified ensemble' (1995) together with christopher lee, snu new music ensemble and timf ensemble. adams & reich are both famously known as minimalist musicians.

although this genre of music is based mostly in consonant harmony; simple and limited units played in endless circle, it creates very interesting sound and rhythm. it's almost like you can visualize the music while listening. ahh.. the beauty of simplicity!

PUMP IT UP! @ PLATOON KUNSTHALLE

last friday night, we had another big party at PLATOON KUNSTHALLE.
our place was decorated with huge and small hot orange balloons. almost 1000 people came for the ‘PUMP IT UP’ party and expected to see korean hip-hop masters and the puppetmastaz!
















hip-hop duo leesang started with a powerful performance and handed over the baton to next runner: tiger jk and t.





each hip-hop musician got so high with the crazy crowd, and they all extended their show time. also they confessed to the guests that they were impressed with our unique place!











for short break time, all bartenders including charles were busy with preparing free jagermeister shots for the thirsty people.

















finally our special guest, puppetmastaz were on the stage and explored fantastic hip-hop music as much we expected.














even though the puppetmastaz finished their performance, two real puppets went to stage again and freestyled rap until we closed! we are all happy with this successful event.















now we are looking forward to 2010!

CHESSBOXING IN SIBERIA

yesterday IEPE #3319 came to visit us here at PLATOON.BERLIN to tell us about his latest adventure in the middle of Siberia where he organized again the Chessboxing Lightweight World Championship, like in february 2009.









on november 28th at the Ivan Yarygin Palace of Sport in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia a crowd of 2000 witnessed a fiercly fought battle in the light heavyweight division, between the 2 most talented chessboxers the world has ever seen:
the reigning world champion Nikolay "The Chairman" Sazhin and the young Leo "Granit" Kraft.

experts knew this would be the highest quality fight ever organised by the World Chess Boxing Organisation in cooperation with the Siberian Chess Boxing Organisation.








Nikolay "The Chairman" Sazhin, a 21 year old math student from Krasnoyarsk, has an amateur boxing record encompassing 95 bouts with 85 victories and his chess Elo rating is 2005.

Leo Kraft, only 17 years old, comes originally from Gomel in Belarus but has been adopted by the German Chess Boxing Organisation (GCBO). he has an impressive record of 50 amateur boxing bouts and 45 wins and his chess Elo Rating is 1997.


after 7 spectacular rounds of intense fight both champions were still standing.however in the 8th round with only one minute left on the chess timer, Sazhin knew he had to knockout his younger opponent. backed by the excited local crowd he attacked his younger opponent with all he had, but after 3 minutes Kraft was still standing.


the bell rang and Nikolay Sazhin laid down his own king and surrendered.
Leo Kraft is now the new World Champion in the light heavyweight division!

after the fight, Vladimir Makarov, head of the SCBO, pointed out that Sazhin had an knee injury just three days before the fight which definitely influenced his ability. Iepe Rubingh, president of the WCBO confirmed this, so both parties agreed on a rematch in 2010.

DMY Klublabor @ PLATOON KUNSTHALLE

the DMY (design mai youngsters) crew is in seoul for the seoul design festival. for five days they will represent dmy berlin and after that it is time for party! the ‘dmy klublabor’ began as party program in mostly berlin clubs, by now it has become an event in itself and tours with the dmy to the hottest design–festivals all over the world.
djs are female macho and shannon aston, vj for the night will be vj jpech.

nam june paik - smithsonian fundraising party @ PLATOON KUNSTHALLE

on nov 27, nam june paik - smithsonian fundraising party was held at PLATOON KUNSTHALLE sponsored by wooridul group. this was very meaningful occasion as many attended to support and show respects to the artist in his homeland. various performances entertained the guests. the party was also an opening reception of the exhibition; runs until dec 2. take a chance to see the extraordinary video art of nam june paik.

PUMP IT UP! @ PLATOON KUNSTHALLE

for one week, reebok will celebrate 20 years of the legendary reebok pump shoe. 20 artists and designers were asked to design shoes and t-shirts. the outcome will be exhibited at PLATOON KUNSTHALLE from 4 december to 9 december.
there will also be a series of performances beginning with the kickoff party on fri, 4 december featuring performances by tiger jk, t. and leessang. as special guest we are happy to announce that PLATOON’s homies from berlin, the puppetmastaz, agreed to perform for the first time in korea! don’t miss rapping puppets going wild on stage!
on monday, 7 december, gentle slicks, pony and windy city will perform live! earip, sogyumo akazia band and han hui jeong will perform on the closing party on wednesday, 9 december.
