finally it happened – we found our temporary seoul office in which we will stay until the first containers arrive! it's a beautiful and spatious loft in one of seoul's highest skyscrapers (see pics) – no, honestly, we are very happy to have a roof over our heads after being urban nomads, roaming seoul's cafes and subway stations day by day. picture one: well, it's a small skyscraper -.-;; and we have access to the rooftop on the right!
first thing we did was getting all this exciting office stuff like notebooks, ballpens, staplers etc. wonderful! now we're ready to do what we came for – rock the city with nu styles! ^^
but who are the people in the pics anyway? it's yeunsu and udo, the new PLATOON seoul members!
yeunsu
being in the business for years and years, yeunsu is one of seoul's most established dj/party promoters. she has managed the notorious M2 club in the past and recently brought over dubfire with pearldiver. besides from that she just loves music and meeting people~ now she is with PLATOON to pimp up the bar and prepare upcoming events!
picture two: udo and christoph standing in the window the whole day representing PLATOON to the seoul streets
udo's life before PLATOON included kanak attak, cultural theory, dancing to vodka red bulls/gin tonics and music of course. he came to seoul in january 2007, spending his time with translating comics for panini and djing. now he's ready to kickstart PLATOON in seoul with the rest of the crew...!

last friday we took part in an art festival in newBERLIN (secondlife). it´s kind of a while we are running up and about SL...since summer 2006 i guess...we created our container land and all but we actually never really dedicated ourself to it completely...dont believe the hype was our motto, whilst everyone jumped on the bandwagon trying to get their virtual place in SL... during last summer though, we had a nice opportunity to get involved in a project with the agency YOUseeMEin3d who run the newBERLIN sim, which is a 1:1 3D version of our beloved city.
we managed to create a link in real time between a mindestlohn.aktion in real berlin and newBERLIN. and it all worked out pretty well.
we also curated the first art exhibition in the alexanderplatz train station in newBERLIN for a while,
and our PLATOON containers are standing on their sim ever since.
thats why we were glad to be invited to take part to their event last friday. the art festival was broadcasted live via SL to the Statens Museum for Kunst (SMK) in Copenhagen and was running in parallel with the virtualmoves exhibition, organised by taggingart.org.
i popped in for a visit and left behind some berlin streetart.
i also invited CHINCHIN, our favourite street-artist, to place one of her works herself!
however, the big SL hype is fading down...but maybe now is time to actually do something constructive with this innovative medium.
the most interesting project so far was supporting with some strategical advise the now legendary IBM strike in SL, organised by uniglobalunion and rappresentanza sindacale IBM (IBM´s Italian union) led by christine revkin and davide barillari.
with their fantastic idea and driving personality they managed to involve many people dislocated worldwide...us included...and with the cheer help of these many motivated individuals, they even managed to win an award at the french senat for their protest in secondlife... for being one of the most exemplary and innovative web-related projects worldwide. congratulations!
these days we are in fact working again with them and TUV representing ver.di with the minimum wage exhibition on the brand new UNION ISLAND, a project that wants to bring together several trade unions worldwide, soon we will also present other campaigns we created for ver.di: genuggespart and streik.tv.(check also congress.tv a similar project by TUV).
we´ll keep you updated from the front about the development of these projects.

bjoerk in seoul
Christoph • February 18. 2008 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
on saturday i went to the bjoerk concert here in seoul. it was here first time to play in korea. so everybody was quite excited. at least 2.000 people came and the olympic hall was sold out. and i think the whole foreign community was there ;-) i am always a little ambiguous about her but since it was a special event for my friends here i joined them. bjoerk is known to have exceptional stage shows like her videos but what she performed on that night (tour) was NOT really stunning. as a bonus she performed 'declare independence' to the crowd. and as it is a 'punk'-song the crowd freaked out.. like koreans love to do! watch rough mobile-video..at the climax little white snipplets of paper where blown thru the whole arena.. everybody was covered.. so a snipplet of paper was at least what people took with them ;-)

streik.tv on zdf
Marcello • February 13. 2008 • POLITICAL AFFAIRS
on monday the 11th of february streik.tv has been featured on ZDF, a german wide television channel. it´s really exciting to see how established media are starting to show interest for our initiative. a tidal wave of strikes is sweaping germany at the moment and we are somehow providing the backbone for the upcoming upheaval .... enough is enough, germans are tired of being exploited, it´s time to take on the streets!
some think we only want to promote strikes for the sake of it...but it isnt true, this is the last resource some people have in order to rise their voice and say what they really think. the established media are often influenced by political interests and seem to demonise our effort to establish a law for minimum wage and rise wages for civil servants, which unfortunately are unfairly paid despite their important role in our society. take for instance fire-brigades, they risk their lives for us, work tremendous shifts and still dont get paid what they deserve...but the list is endless, encompassing people working in transport, kitas, , hospitals, swimming pools, waste disposal, sewage facilities and many more....check out our past article about the initiative ENOUGH SAVED!.
we hope to present a fair picture of what is really happening by focusing exactly on this people. in fact, although the problems are mentioned very often both on news papers and broadcast news, the matters are rarely explored in depth. we are not using our topics to please some political party running for the elections, we are here to show what is really happening....from the perspective of workers and all those that don´t get the chance to talk extensively about their situation.
here is a chance for all of you living outside germany to make your own opinion about the state of affairs over here.
ah, and just for the records...we are working in shipping containers for a reason, not because we are in a precarious situation as it has been mentioned on ZDF. but this is another story.
