swatch mtv playground

ubin • September 21. 2009 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
last friday we went to the swatch mtv playground event at aa design museum in hongdae.
this event takes place across europe and asia and offers young artists to proof their creativity in art battles and live paintings.
while having drinks and sitting in cosy armchairs we watched the grafitti battle between the artists basara and mesus. have a look...

while basara in the purple shirt tried to convince with clear structures and less colors...

mesus in the purple sweater preferred colorful, rather chaotic street styles.
he was the winner of the competition.

DAILY MADNESS IN THE WORLD

heidrun • September 19. 2009 • PLATOON.area
many people came to listen gigi gianuzzi from trolleybooks last thursday at the PLATOON DONNERSTAGS-BAR.

he presented several slideshows, samples of recent photography-books which are part of his publishing program. the most of us were deeply moved by the pictures. we all know about the world´s problems and we have all seen many publications about these topics. but these photographers show us in an unspectacular, almost unbearable normal view, the daily madness in the world.

but if you think that this show left us only with a bitter taste of embarassement: then you´re mistaken.
no, it was a warm atmosphere among each other, with interesting talks.....and of course lots of drinks.

it was a profound, very good evening.

thank you gigi for coming again to PLATOON. we hope to see TROLLEYBOOKS on the shelves of Berlin´s bookstores sometime soon!

Hello my name is...

Fabian • September 17. 2009 • PLATOON.members
...Fabian.

Right now I am doing an internship at PLATOON. Four weeks only. You think that's too short? So do I. Still I couldn't feel any better about being here. Trying to absorb everything before I have to go back to Karl-Marx-Stadt where I study media communication. Being born in Schwäbisch-Hall, having grown up in and around Hamburg, studying in Chemnitz and being in Berlin right now I am trying to get to know Germany (north, east, south and west and so on)... well... and life. Hoping to spread the ideas I gather at PLATOON in the grey but charming (because of its honesty) Chemnitz.

Since I am not much of an extroverted person and plain words and pictures apparantely don't get you anywhere nowadays I will leave it at that and instead post a link to the fantastic new video for Grizzly Bear's While You Wait For The Others, which is my favourite song on their latest album Veckatimest. The video has just the right amount of surrealism and complements the song perfectly.
The director is Sean Pecknold who also did the claymation video for Fleet Foxes' White Winter Hymnal from last year.

Ahoj!

Personal house

I think this is the best solution for a lot of people in germany... to have the Camper bike, it is Balkan style, the Chinese love it, the mexicans will adapt it to be a taco shop...

For those who haver a lower budget there is also the Camper Kart... it is the master piece of Kevin Cyr...

When mobility comes first people have creative ideas....

poor old man?

ubin • September 16. 2009 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
no, that's neither a lego figure nor an old man without arms.
that person – or let's better call it 'thing' – is a traffic robot. he is placed in front of a construction site (instead of a sign) to make sure car's won't crash it.
all he does is moving his 'arms' in all directions with glowsticks in his non-existent hands.
we saw him today on our way to lunch, next to PLATOON KUNSTHALLE.
at first i wasn't doubting it's a real person and felt pity for him. in my thoughts i could see him saying, if he's asked for his occupation: "i am a warning sign."
but then ohyun and udo opened my shortsighted eyes. thanks to them i can go to sleep without thinking what a human rights abusing country korea is.

TROLLEYBOOKS @ PLATOON.BERLIN

Marcello • September 15. 2009 • PLATOON.area
THIS WEEK SPECIAL @ PLATOON DONNERSTAGS-BAR

as every thursday we are glad to invite you to our advanced drinking culture evening here at PLATOON.BERLIN

Gigi Giannuzzi #3244 will present a slideshow of the latest books published by TROLLEYBOOKS.

trolleybooks is a publishing house that is recognized for its diverse and often daring range of photography and art books, its high quality of production and design, and most of all for its commitment to the integrity of its publications. the impressive pictures reveal the blank truth in different parts of the world. they document social and political narratives, conflicts, and the humanitarian effects of war, with the belief that books have an innate power to act as cultural testaments to events in the world that should be seen, and not be forgotten.

back in april Gigi presented TROLLEYBOOKS for the opening of the KUNSTHALLE LIBRARY in Seoul.

MAUER-MOB: recreating berlin wall - 9th november 2009

Christoph • September 14. 2009 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
we invite everybody to join this great perfomance as a part of the tumbling berlin wall 20 years ago:

join on facebook: Mauer Mob. 2009
- Recreating the Berlin Wall"

The idea is to create on the 9th november 2009, a line of people that will recreate the berlin wall with their physical presence, that would last for approximately 30 minutes.

The berlin wall project is about creating a " temporary monument of reflection".

For the 20 years anniversary we will rebuild the berlin wall, not from steel and concrete but with people.. to remember the 20 years when berlin became one again...

47000 people are forming a human chain that will make its way on the 9th november around 8 . 15pm a chain exactly where the originally wall stood.

This way hand in hand will be such a temporary moment for 20 minutes the historic separation of berlin, visable, feasable and with that understandable just to break apart after a short time.

By that will we create space for thinking together about separation and reunion... and show how a single person can move as part of a group..

470 people from different backgrounds will be gathered to each move and motivated another 100 people to work/ join with them.

For this there will be used as modern as well as traditional means of communication .. social networking platforms,, twitter myspace face book, chat forums.. sms. telephone.. press work.. pub talk (stamtisch) and mouth to mouth propaganda..

It is quite an ambitious project and i would need as much support from art instutions, schools, public institutions, great people as possible ..

Rather than being a twenty years memorial of walls fall, its is much more about the scale of the human imagination, achievement and involvement, and it that could be used for the positive rather than the negative actions..

and is a project that can attract people from all different walks of life, age, profession, and class.

The wall when it was created 20 years ago was one of the clearest man-made divisions of people of with different ideologies.

With mauer mob 09 project, the creation of the wall by people is more about saying that such divisions are no longer acceptable in todays society..

Its much more a rebellious statement of "borders were yesterday", than remembering the actual wall.
