REVIEW: ARTIST INTRO CHIN CHIN

so many things happening at PLATOON KUNSTHALLE and it's time to give you all an update about our latest events that took place...

finally, our long awaited third artist-in-residence, chin chin, made herself at home in STUDIO C here in seoul.




















on the 22nd of march she gave us an introduction of her work and her plans here in korea during her residency.














chin chin's works are inspired by figures and characters at the margins of imagination, myths about outsiders and freaks, and how they are depicted. and here you see her first impression of seoul, inspired by a korean legend, that a ghost is hiding under your bed when you're sleeping...














she also showed us a music video that she made for her friend when she was in berlin:


there are more things to come, e.g. showcase reboot vol.10 with the singapore delegation and special performance by ivo bol, independent magazine market unlimited edition and udo spontaneously dancing tango at the korean music awards... so stay tuned :)

KOREAN MUSIC AWARDS 2010

on tuesday 30 march the 7th korean music awards will take place at PLATOON KUNSTHALLE.


the korean music awards are given to artists who contributed to the development of korean music scene through their musical achievements in the last year. the jury commitee, consisting of music critics, journalists, radio producers and other experts, judges the musical accomplishment and real talent of the artists. in contrary to other awards, the the jury's criteria are not based on album sales or popularity. during the awarding ceremony, hosted by alex, kang san e, la ventana, lowdown 30 with shin yoon chul, lee ji hyung will perform live on stage. the celebration will continue at the after party with music by 360 sounds.

MONTHLY MOVIE PRESENTATION: FANTASTIC PLANET

THU 1 APRIL · 8 PM

SEOUL · irritate, inspire, pose questions. PLATOON KUNSTHALLE screens documentaries and feature films about modern forms of cultural developments. the topic can be different ways of living, social problems or taboos – it is time to face reality.

based on a novel by science-fiction writer stefan wul, "fantastic planet" (1973) by rene laloux and roland topor is set in a fascinating surreal world full of strange creatures. the spaced out soundtrack by alain goraguer also inspired hip hop producer madlib: the track "come on feet" on the album "the unseen" is based on a sample out of the soundtrack of this animation classic.

the animator roland topor and the screenwriter stefan wul are both polish descendant and they brought socio-political symbolism to the film with mesmerizing images. the film production started in 1968, right after the prague spring and took five years to be completed.

co-produced by france and czechoslovakia, the film won the special jury prize at the 1973 cannes film festival.

JOVOO passed away

the federal ministry of economics and technology was the place, where today our member and lone fighter johanna says her label "jovoo" good bye in style.


















































she offered to the funeral with sadness, but not without
humor and future mind. she says:

join us in drinking a toast of the future of slowfashion,
who will revolutionize not only the terms of production
but also, hopefully, the distribution channels and consumer behaviour.

stop short for memory to the pioneer jovoo.
let us join to the high spirit, to have had the right idea at the wrong time.

since two weeks a black cat is strolling around berlin mitte. there is no rule for her appearance, it’s just everywhere. mauz.

terror of consumption

the terror of consumption, especially in the fast and always renewing and trend-hunting fashion industry, doesn't stop and respect poverty, privacy or homeless people.

the new fashion hero of the upcoming super country china is the so called brother sharp, a homeless 35 year old.

"the suggestion that homelessness can be cool chimes with a fashion trend that many have considered tasteless: in January, the designer Vivienne Westwood presented a "homeless chic" show in which models were styled to look like rough sleepers, a move prefigured by Ben Stiller's satirical film Zoolander, which featured a similar show called Derelicte. two years ago the supermodel Erin Wasson revealed the homeless were her fashion inspiration, saying: "when I... see the homeless, like, I'm like, 'Oh my God, they're pulling out, like, crazy looks and they, like, pull shit out of like garbage cans." one of his fans did discover brother sharp as a brand and opened up a fake profile in the social network facebook - with almost 10.000 fans and various pics. that's sick!

the only downer, after several years of disconnection from his family due to personal disorders, through the press hype his family found him and reassimilated him.

SEOUL · UNLIMITED EDITION is all about independent publishers and their creations. publishers present publications from limited editions featuring only 5 copies to design magazines with a solid fanbase. while they distribute them directly to the public, visitors have the opportunity to meet the makers of their favourite publications and exchange ideas. UNLIMITED EDITION provides an overview about the state of independent publishing in korea and reflects dynamics of a scene that doesn’t separate consumption and production but invites everybody to express their ideas and express it their way.
