break down the educational blockades: school strike 13.9

on my way for a coffee i found myself surrounded by about 8000 students students striking against the degradating conditions of the educational system here in germany, most of them were still in their teens; they took over the streets of east berlin in a move to make their voices heard loud and clear by the several political parties running for the upcoming regional elections...

the reasons for the upheavel can be found in the recent financial cuts for education...a very unclever decision, especially in a country that could always vaunt a very high standard of education among its population...

who made the mistake will now have to sort it out!
after the example given by the french turmoil, the mood in germany seems shifting towards one of unrest and protest.

the students marched chanting passionately things like:


wir sind hier!
wir sind laut!
weil ihr uns die zukunft klaut! ....
(We are here, we are loud, ´coz you are stealing our future!)

or were holding banners with slogans like:


"education is everybody´s right, we are here an we will fight!"

"they might even cut down every flower
but they can´t prevent the spring to come!"

and then they say that youth isnt much politically involved...

after having read both books, the “voyage to fire” and “the foreign bride”, i first got a feeling of anger and then one of cluelessness; the perplexity of the intellectual. the allegation against both authors. both books deal with acquaintances with women in Islamic families. and what is most significant, within Turkish-islamic families here in germany. until now it seemed to me a bit like ridge hiking- are you active?, like for instance you talk about it, then it can sound slightly racist and also evoke racism. In this respect, the alibi of interfering with a foreign culture seemed to me as being credible.

so today im reading seyran ates- one of the two authors- who had to leave her job and her lawyer´s office, since the threats at her own person had massively exceeded the bearable.

from today i want to have the audacity to make my outrage public. and it will wipe off my concerns. then the contempt against human right infringements can never be racist.

i absolutely recommend you to read both books. one of them is somehow minted with berlin autobiographical facts, the other contains need-to-know self experiences about the values of islam.
somehow it is not acceptable that we are pushed (or push ourselves) out of this debate.



nachdem ich die beiden bücher die reise zum feuer und die fremde braut gelesen hatte, überkam mich erst wut und dann ratlosigkeit. die ratlosigkeit der intellektuellen. der vorwurf beider autorinnen. beide bücher handeln über den umgang mit frauen in der islamischen familie. und was das wesentlichste ist, in der türkisch-islamischen familie hier in deutschland.
es erschien mir bisher als gratwanderung -wirst du aktiv bzw. redest darüber, dann kann das so leicht rassistisch klingen und auch rassismus wecken. hinzu war mir die entschuldigung sich in eine fremde kultur einzumischen, glaubhaft.

heute nun lese ich dass seyran ates -eine der beiden autorinnen- ihren beruf und ihre anwaltskanzlei aufgegeben hat, da die drohungen an sie das erträgliche mass überschritten haben.

ab heute will ich den mut haben, meine empörung öffentlich zu machen. und sie wird meine bedenken wegwischen, denn die verachtung von menschenrechtsverletzungen kann niemals rassistisch sein.

ich empfehle unbedingt die beiden bücher zu lesen. das
eine ist berlin-autobiografisch geprägt, das andere enthält zu den eigenerfahrungen viel wissenswertes über die werte des islams.
es kann irgendwie nicht sein, dass wir uns vor dieser auseinandersetzung drücken.

the Spiegel and other printmedias had already reported about it

tonight at 19:30 o´clock the concepts will presented and delineated at the former state council building and there should be also a debate taking place with both sustainers and opposer, moderated by gert scobel (3sat kulturzeit)

the architecture firm from Stuttgart bottega+erhardt, ties in with the former “Palast”´s subject matter to this point: a place for and of our republic

they will be giving to the 20.000m2 base area a red tartan coating which in turn will be sided by 16 black stairways through which they lead an appearing floating yellow woodenbox. The stairs would be ending in 16 separate white rooms which measure respectively 1.250 m2. all of them will have to be filled with art by the 16 federal states of germany.


all designs have something in common, they are an idea and have to be regarded as such. until now they served only as encouragement. nevertheless, what needs to be happening with them now, is to this date unclear. perhaps the outcome will be that the project wont keep existing only as an arty-game afterall, but the idea of it will be followed also in the future, something I personally find to be as very preferable.


but then again, to be totally honest with you, i still often hope that all this stupid matter about rebuilding the city-castle will not achieve its purpose.




gelände palast der republik

"ein museum auf zeit für die kunst von heute".

unter diesem thema hat das kunstmagazin monopol mit unterstützung der hertie-school of governance
4 architketurbüros gebeten, sich gedanken zur zwischennutzung des palastgeländes zu machen.

der spiegel und andere printmedien hatten schon darüber berichtet.

heute abend um 19:30 uhr sollen die entwürfe im ehemaligen staatsratsgebäude vorgestellt und anschliessend soll eine diskussion mit unterstützern und gegnern unter der moderation von gert scobel (3sat kulturzeit) geführt werden.

das stuttgarter architekturbüro bottega+erhardt knüpft an die inhaltliche thematik des ehemaligen palastes an:
ein ort für und von unserer republik. sie geben der 20.000 m2 grundfläche einen roten tartanbelag von dem aus 16 schwarze treppen (=stützen) in die dadurch schwebend erscheinende gelbe holzkiste führen. sie enden in 16 seperaten weissen räumen von jeweils 1.250 m2 die von den 16 bundesländern mit kunst bespielt werden müssen.

alle entwürfe haben eines gemeinsam, sie sind eine idee und sind als soche anzusehen. bis jetzt dienen sie als anregung. was mit ihnen passieren soll ist bis dato noch nicht geklärt. vielleicht ergibt es sich jedoch, dass es nicht nur ein künstlerisches spiel bleibt, sondern dass eine idee davon auch weiterverfolgt wird. was ich für sehr wünschenswert hielte.

denn ganz offen hoffe ich immer noch, dass diese blödsinnige stadtschloss-wiedererstellung gar nie zum tragen kommt.

ob man sich nun ausschliesslich ironisch darüber äussern und denken sollte wie der spiegel das tut, ist mir nicht ganz so sympathisch. immerhin ist er der erste arabische regent der das internet benutzt und es nicht verteufelt. dass er ein schlitzohr ist -wie alle politiker- ist eh bekannt.

Bebelplatz

i was already aware about the reason why i wanted to escape berlin during the world cup. when one comes out of our platoon-area it gets quite appaling for what is happening out there.








so when i pass by bebelplatz i cant trust my eyes: a colourful and funny circle of hundreds of the most distasteful buddy-bears i´ve ever seen were standing around the „book incineration memorial“, the one consumed exactly on this spot by the fascist national-socialists during the third reich.









excuse me but somehow I don´t get it- I mean this oh so happy, joyfully meant „friend´s invitation“.




do we really take people for being so much up the pole, that they can only feel at ease in disneyland?
and what about the „fabrikplastiken“ that stand for germany, land of the ideas....to celebrate modern printing at bebelplatz, has something cinical about it.




then I rather prefer staying here in the weinmeisterstrasse to cool down;-)













der bebelplatz

ich wusste schon warum ich während der wm aus berlin abhauen wollte.
kommt man aus unserer wunderbaren platoon-area heraus, ist es ziemlich schrecklich was da passiert.

komm also da am bebelplatz vorbei und traue meinen augen nicht: ein bunter lustiger kreis von hunderten schrecklichsten buddy-bären um die gedenkstätte der bücherverbrennung herum, die von den faschistischen nationalsozialisten im dritten reich genau an diesem ort
vollzogen wurde.

ich fass das irgendwie nicht -diese so gut, so fröhlich und lustig gemeinte einladung der freunde.
halten wir alle menschen für so bescheuert, dass sie sich nur im disneyland wohl fühlen?

und dann noch die fabrikplastiken die für deutschland land der ideen stehen.... hier am bebelplatz den modernen buchdruck zu feiern, hat für mich was zynisches.

da bleib ich doch lieber in der weinmeisterstrasse und kühl mich ab ;-)

bundesliga will be named t-com-liga

bravo Mr meyer-vorfelder!!!

in an article that appeared today in the berliner zeitung we found out that the bundesliga (German Soccer League) will be named t-com-liga in the future. The change of the name would benefit the dfb to the tune of a two-figure million amount.


we will see if the individual associations will keep showing their sponsor on the breast and keep enjoying their money flow.


but by all means the members of the t-com liga will appear with a logo on the shirt.


according to the chairman of the german journalist union: the bundesliga keeps slipping towards a continuous advertisment program.


all of that just before the World Cup. what does it mean for german football? maybe soon you could go to the stock exchange and trade with the players as commodities! It's been due for a long time now.

in einem heutigen bericht der berliner zeitung erfahren wir, dass die bundesliga in zukunft t-com-liga heissen wird. die namensrechtsänderung dürfte in einem zweistelligen millionenbetrag dem dfb zugute kommen.


ob die einzelnen vereine dadurch ihre sponsoren weiterhin auf der brust zeigen und in den genuss der gelder kommen, wird man sehen. auf jeden fall wird die t-com-liga natürlich mit einem logo auf dem hemd
erscheinen.


wie es von dem vorsitzenden des deutschen journalisten verbandes heisst:drohen die bundesligasübertragungen zur dauerwerbesendung zu verkommen.


das ganz kurz vor der wm zum deutschen fussball. vielleicht gehen sie ja an die börse. das ist doch längst fällig. die spieler als börsenware.

we feed the world

it´s the name of a new documentary that unfortunately will first appear in austrian cinemas in september. (actually this was a wrong info. it will be shown in germany from the 27 of april) anyway i think it´s worth to be blogged, mostly because the homepage is very informative and it doesn´t need the movie to be relevant, furthermore the topic is very important to me- it lies at my heart, and one happens to be in austria sometimes anyway.

erwin wagenhofer and his production team have been following the leads taking us to the various stages of production within our foodchain, something that will take them, among other place, to eastern europe, france, spain, switzerland, brazil and austria.
during this time they interview all sorts of people who somehow influence the foodchain at different levels - fishermen, farmers, truckdrivers, agronomers and biologists, but also multinational chiefs like Peter Brabeck, CEO of Nestlé International.

the most evident superstructure of the movie is its theme of nourishment and globalization with the question: what has the hunger in the world actually have to do with us...so, from way it has all been presented it seems like an interesting movie that will certainly offer some answers.

heisst ein neuer dokumentationsfilm, der leider erst im september und dann wahrscheinlich erstmal in österreich in die kinos kommen wird (das war eine fehlinformation. kinostart in deutschland am 27.april.) trotzdem ist er mir einen blog wert, nicht zuletzt weil die homepage äußerst informativ ist und den film nicht zwingend benötigt, mir das thema am herzen liegt und man außerdem ja auch manchmal in österreich ist.


erwin wagenhofer und sein produktionsteam haben sich auf die spur unserer Lebensmittel gemacht, was sie u.a. nach osteuropa, frankreich, spanien, in die schweiz, nach brasilien und österreich geführt hat. in dieser zeit wurden alle möglichen menschen interviewt, die in der großen nahrungskettenmaschinerie mitwirken - Fischer und Bauern, Fernfahrer, Agronomen und Biologen, aber auch Konzernlenker wie Peter Brabeck, chef von Nestlé International.

großer überbau des films sind die themen ernährung und globalisierung und die frage, was der hunger auf der welt eigentlich mit uns zu tun hat. so wie sich das alles liest und ansieht, ein sehr gelungener film der sicherlich antworten zu bieten hat.
