GANA Art 25th Anniversary Exhibition.
yeunsu lee • September 5. 2008 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
most of the art spaces in seoul are in ...? it's pyungchangdong! we all went there yesterday for gana art gallery's 25th anniversary exhibition .the exhibition will be opened from 04/09 ~ 21/09.
it was a very nice opening party. here is more information about the exhibition.
"celebrating its 25th anniversary, gana hold the present exhibition.the exhibition filled with stories of artists who have worked with gana. preparing the exhibition, the 24 participating artists had some special time to converse with each other. 12 artists who have collaborated with gana art for over 20 years and 12 young ones who have just started to work with gana made pairs and had heart -to-heart talks sharing their thoughts on art, questions on each other's works, view of art world, and the philosophy of life.it is not fresh or new idea to arrange this kind of conversation between old&young. however, these days, there are not many chances the both could meet and have open talks. this is why gana prepared the encounters between them.the views on art that the artists working with gana have could stand for the gallery's orientation. through their mouths, gana art wants to unfold its story and values.
as the way of life have changed with years, the way of artists' entering upon the art world have a lot changed.here, the positive change was that the newcomers do not depend on any special route or power to step forward in art circles any more. now, they could solely depend on their art to express themselves. in the mean time, however, the individualism, snobbish attitude, and trend-chasing tendency have widely spread among artists. moreover, many people are worrying that it is not easy to find names of senior artists in exhibition pamphlets.in their self-scorning talks that old artists, the main props and stays of korean art, are losing ground in present art scene which is only focusing on young artists ,i see the reality of korean are world which have a burden of thinking to establish a healthy vision for the future art......"

JONG WHA PARK -PIANIST-
heidrun • August 11. 2008 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
last week we all went to the french cathedral to listen to the berlin international classical music festival and especially to watch the extraordinary performance of JONG WHA PARK, a good friend of PLATOON, whom we met in seoul:.he played in the master series, executing works of schumann, bach and chopin.
it was great! only set back was the bad acoustics in the room -there was a sort of echo that was distracting the artist, first of all, but also the audience. It´s kind of strange that no one thought about it beforehand.
nonetheless the pianist was brilliant. a wonderful piano-concert.; the listeners applauded enthusiastically and JONG gave us 4 extras.

Southwark LIDO - London´s urban baths
Marcello • July 10. 2008 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
the Temporary Architecture fever is hitting London as well. for this week-end only, you can enjoy having a roman bath & sauna at Southwark Lido in London, a project by french architectural collective EXYZT. The temporary public bath was commissioned by the Architecture Foundation for the London Festival of Architecture.the theme of urban regeneration through community interaction is something we support as well... afterall it is one of the reasons why we have been featured at the BLN/NYC dialogues last year.
also the construction is somehow very familiar to us...it almost feels like home. maybe for the fact that EXYZT also used layher-system, although in their own very creative way. or maybe it is for that Badeschiff flair...
however we love this project, it works so well in London´s urban setting under the tube´s bridge!(pics)
it turns out to be quite surreal to have a sauna and lay in the sun in this post industrial background.
EXYZT are quite familiar with Berlin´s architectural scene....in 2005 they joined forces with raumlabor in the temporary hotel project „der Berg“ at the former Palast der Republik, which now, unfortunately, is being dismantled.
so, if any of you EXYZT guys are ever in Berlin again, dont forget to come around for a chat here at PLATOON.
watch this video about „der Berg“
