BACKJUMPS 4.2. JUNIOR EDITION
sophie • August 23. 2010 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
BERLIN · we are mighty delighted to announce that the latest BACKJUMPS exhibition is about to open its doors at projektraum 1 / kunstraum kreuzberg / bethanien this weekend!BACKJUMPS started out as an urban magazin with focus on streetart and subculture and has now turned into an exhibition series. this issue will be slightly different than all the other street expos you might have been to so far.
VOL 4.2. is made predominately for kids and of course for those of us who will never grow up. challenge for the artists thus was to create pieces that are to be interacted with and interpreted by a crowd of the max. age of 14. the concept is mirrored by the installation of the pieces themselves - hanging in kids height - and the posters, which are an invitation for all of us (and kids) to take out our colouring pen-sets and go crazy!
for everyone wanting to throw a bit of boozing into the mix, there will be an afterparty at HORST in kreuzberg on the 28th starting at around 10pm. (here is the facebook link)
you can keep updated on BACKJUMPS on facebook. otherwise make sure to spread the word and we'll see you there!
EXHIBITION OPENING: 27. AUGUST - 4pm
PARTY: 28. AUGUST -10pm

BERLIN . JALLA!!!
sophie • August 16. 2010 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
BERLIN . JALLA! I find it difficult to discribe why last friday was such a rad night! it starts with the location: haus der kulturen der welt?.. not my number one choice of party locations.. then let's have a look at the setting: amidst tie-died scarves and genuine volkshochschule (german adults evening classes) desert arts and craft pots?.. also not usually present during my nocturnal strolls. my fellow party-animals somewhere between their early teens and late seventies.. mighty unusual also!but then omar souleyman enters the stage, the music starts, and all these elements become incredibly trivial. omar souleyman, the syrian superstar! with round sunglasses, smug smile and self-confindent majestic wave. he is on stage and nothing else matters.
i find myself tapping my foot to the beat, not able to let loose quite as quickly as the dread-locked derwish next to me, and definitely not yet as starry-eyed as the 60+ year-old lady with her arms in the air. but all of that will change. within 30 minutes me, anna and our friends have transformed - we've shed our 'Mitte' air of coolness, have stepped down from our haughty throne and are trilling and booty shaking like everyone else.
2 hours and 1 encore later, omar releases us sweat-dripping into the night. huge grin on our faces. we're all one - and I really need to get a tie-died scarf!
so note fellow readers: if you ever get the chance to see him, don't miss it!

EL BOCHO @ PLATOON.BERLIN
Marcello • July 22. 2010 • URBAN COMMUNICATION
BERLIN · finally! we´ve been waiting for EL BOCHO since a long time... Martin #4522 and Timo #3538 were on his case for a while. we even heard that once one of our members told him off by mistake coz she thought he wanted to put some ads on our containers... that was really unfortunate... but we are glad he came back again!dont know if he did it on purpose, but he pasted his work on the only part of the containers wich is behind the door when we are open... so basically you can see it just when we are not there! actually there were already enough people today who asked me to move the door for a sneaky glimpse... just hope it wont happen every ten minutes!
so thanks EL BOCHO! you are always welcome at PLATOON!
another thing... hope the "Bad Kids" who sprayed an amateur graffiti on our container some weeks ago will get some inspiration... just put some effort and remember that we always support artists and creatievs that have something to say!
