BERLIN · DONNERSTAGSBAR RE-OPENS ITS GATES

BERLIN · smiles all around. this was probably one of the best and most absurd evenings I've had for a while. DONNERSTAGSBAR at its finest!.. see, I'm one of the newbies, I've only ever heard the tales of steamy summer nights, dripping bodies in the sweltering heat of the stronghold of the PLATOON yard. I've only ever heard of dimly lit parties with myriads of performing zeniths, of morning hours spend soaking in mampe. all of this has always only existed in my head and in the words of others. then yesterday came along with dramatic clouds, liquid air and storm.


the grill was lit, the salads made, and one after the other joined in the witching hours to celebrate this year's DONNERSTAGSBAR grand opening.


the rain hit, the table moved inside the bar. not long afterwards the musical surprise joined in the madness. note: if you hire a gypsy band of 4, prepare to be surprised, for 4 is simply a reference point - open to definition. with 8 musicians positioned against the container walls we bid farewell to logic and normality and carried on with what we do best - booze-infused merriness!


























thanks to everyone who came and made it all happen. now put it down in your calendar: this is a reoccurring event! DONNERSTAGSBAR should become an essential part of your weekly planing process. we're already preparing ourselves for next week! so see you then!



























oh, and did I mention: meat is the new black!

WORLD CUP GLORY: A SUMMARY

BERLIN · remember the days when our eyes were glued to the TV screens? when the constant hum of foreign heavenly trumpets would follow us through the streets? when it was ok to start drinking beer at 1:30pm and just keep on going? when adults could put on their favourite war-paint again and scream at strange men running around on a screen - when the biggest couch-potatoes could engage in deep and meaningful sporting conversations?…
alas, another chapter is closed. the WORLD CUP 2010 is over!

the days where glorious and although we as the ground team reached our emotional limits every once in a while (for good god it's a lot of work to put on a World Cup) we look back on the last 5 weeks and the hot summery nights and smile!




























thank you everyone! thank you team (not the 11.. they are already being pampered by our bundespraesident) no, thank you bar team for pouring oil into our slightly sandy gear-boxes. thank you BBQ team for all the culinary delights! thank you friends and members for kick-starting this summer so beautifully, for all your spirit and support! and thank you fellow ground crew for busting your asses to make sure all of this could happen!












































as for us, we have regathered our spirits in light-speed and have started planning the next, less sporty, shenanigans! but we shall keep you posted!













and last but not least: sorry oranje! there is nothing we can say or do to make you feel better, just know that we'll be having octopus tonight and you in our yard again hopefully very soon!

BERLIN - SCHLAAAAAND! 4:0 VICTORY FOR THE GERRRMANS AND LIMITED TICKETS FOR THE SEMI FINALS

first: SCHLAAAND is the german soccer battle cry! I think it's time all of you ought to practice it for we have just entered the semi-finals!
it was a smouldering hot afternoon and it set the mood for the heated-up and fantastic atmosphere in our newly shaded yard.
4:0 against argentina! sorry guys but we needed to revenge our mexican friends and BBQ goddesses, it's nothing personal!!

with argentina and brazil out of the competition, we're mentally preparing ourselves to face the dutch in the finals :).. but anything could happen till then, so let's see how the semi-finals go.



second and VERY IMPORTANT: yes, we've entered the semi-finals BUT we only have LIMITED TICKETS for the game (which will be on wednesday the 7.7. at 8:30 pm!!). so that means for everyone who would like to come: GET YOUR TICKETS FAST! you can get your tickets at PLATOON headquarter alte schoenhauser str. 3 (corner linienstr.) on monday and tuesday from 11-8pm (price is 3.- like always, and like always those 3.- go straight towards financing the LED screen!)


































... some are simply not fazed by soccer madness.. pretty cool!

BERLIN · WORLD CUP GOES ON AND ON AND ON... QUARTER FINALS!!

the hotter it gets the better. seriously, considering that the boys on the pitch are drenched after a game, I think it's just fair that we ought to feel the same! the last 2.5 weeks where great fun. so much good food, so much kick-ass soccer and all of that surrounded by our friends and members.
we've cheered with the red devils, we've cheered with the blue daemon, we've cheered for the team whose players are heroes no, god-like figures in this country, but still thank their grandparents at the end of a match. we have cheered in those weeks gone by and we will continue! ladies and gentleman we have entered the quarter finals!

it starts out this friday 02.07. with NETHERLANDS vs. BRAZIL (4pm) then URUGUAY vs. GHANA (8:30pm).
the quarter finals continue on saturday with almighty ARGENTINA fighting GERMANY (4pm) followed by PARAGUAY vs. ??? (here you can still place a bet!)

3:1 for argentinia...hmmm.. may I just say that I like mexican wrestling better than soccer anyway! lol no, but seriously, our respect and our love go out to our mexican friends for playing such an awesome game, for showing such grand spirit and for now joining the german fans as we strive to defeat the mighty argentinians!

a fantastic game against england ends with 4:1 for germany.
unbelievable. great. awesome.

1:0 VICTORY WITH RESTRAINED JUBILATION

so, we won.. hmm but not exactly in the proudest manner! over 200 people celebrated with us at the match yesterday. germany won, but after a match like that we're quite happy that they didn't kick out the last african team in the World Cup - that would have been unfair, bad karma and all the rest of it!










































yes, our young soccer heroes didn't perform their best game. but a victory is a victory and we hope to see more brilliance next time!



















































also, who needs brilliant soccer when they have brillian BBQ and an amazing bar team! thank you guys for last night!
